Senkrokodila Semajnfino in Rochester

Esperantists from across New York State and a few from Washington DC gathered in Rochester, New York, for the All-Esperanto Weekend on the 30th and 31st of January. The weekend offered a plethora of opportunities to experience the city—on Saturday, participants saw the impressive Airigami balloon sculpture, saw the Sister Cities Bridge and Broad Street Aqueduct, and gathered for an evening party. On Sunday, they walked the Lake Ontario pier and raced electric slot-cars. Attendance was a mix of expert speakers and beginners and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to get to know one another through the international language. The event was organized jointly by the Rochester Esperanto Club and the Syracuse Esperanto Society.

Two states, two days. On October 12 and 13, Esperantists from Syracuse, Rochester, Binghamton, and Elmira, New York, and from Sayre, Pennsylvania, took part in an all-Esperanto weekend in the Penn-York Valley. The program consisted of a visit to the Roberson Museum and Science Center, swimming, a petting zoo, zip-lining, and of course a lot of Esperanto speaking! The event was organized by the Rochester Esperanto Club.

Esperanto Soccer Team Competes in Buenos Aires

A match between two newly formed soccer teams, Selektitaro de Esperanto and Argentina Selección de la Comunidad Armenia, took place at Polideportivo Colegiales stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the 99th Universala Kongreso de Esperanto. Both teams became official members of NF-Board which brings together teams from nations, enclaves, and minority groups not eligible for membership in FIFA. The Esperanto team is made up of players from Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Russia. Comunidad Armenia won the match 8-3.

Academy Revises Interpretation of Names in Esperanto

According to Oficiala Informo Numero 22, la Akademio de Esperanto revised their interpretation on the use of proper names in Esperanto. The academy recommends “more attention and support to be paid for fully translating commonly used proper names into Esperanto.” This reverses one of their earlier interpretations from the Oka Oficiala Aldono al la Universala Vortaro.
